3. Northwestern remains in control

Despite the loss to Notre Dame, the day was not completely ugly for the Wildcats. Thanks to Purdue’s win over Iowa, Northwestern remains in control of its destiny in the race to play for the Big Ten title in December.

The Wildcats are 5-1 in the league, holding victories over Purdue, Michigan State, Nebraska, Rutgers and Wisconsin around a loss by three points to Michigan in late September. In fact, while the defeat to Notre Dame snaps an overall four-game win streak, the ‘Cats can make it five in a row in the Big Ten next week with Iowa.

A victory over the Hawkeyes would really put them in the driver’s seat holding the tiebreaker over both the Boilermakers and Badgers with games against Minnesota and Illinois left.
