The skinny
There wasn’t much more enjoyable from this weekend than Army’s opening 21-play, 75-yard touchdown drive against Air Force that chewed up 12:55 of game clock. The Knights survived a late Falcons rally to hold on to a 17-14 victory to continue their impressive season.
Bill Clark has UAB on the verge of a C-USA championship in just the second season since the program shutdown. The Blazers have been keyed by one of the nation’s best defenses; they’ve pitched three shutouts, and held opponents to single digit points in three other games. If not for a baffling road loss to Coastal Carolina, UAB would be a serious threat to snag the Group of 5’s bid to the New Year’s Six.
Baylor scored a touchdown with seven seconds left to top Oklahoma State and get within one win of bowl eligibility. Coming off of a one-win season in 2017 in Matt Rhule’s first campaign in Waco, getting that sixth win and making a bowl game would be a big accomplishment in year two. It’ll likely come down to home games against TCU or Texas Tech for the Bears to get there.
Herm Edwards and Arizona State scored an impressive victory this week, a 38-20 win over Utah to move within one game of bowl eligibility in their own right. Now, with wins over USC and Utah, even at 3-3 in conference, the Sun Devils control their own destiny in the PAC-12 South. After playing UCLA at home next week, they finish up the regular season with back-to-back road games at Oregon and Arizona.
