Texas suffered a heartbreaking 42-41 loss at home against West Virginia on Saturday. The Longhorns traded punches all day long against the Mountaineers, but gave up the game-winning points with only 16 seconds remaining on a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. With the loss, Texas suffered their second straight loss in conference play.

Sam Ehlinger was impressive in defeat, throwing for 354 yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-36 passing. Ehlinger added 52 yards and a rushing touchdown as well, but it was not enough as the defense gave up 346 passing yards and three scores to West Virginia quarterback Will Grier. The Longhorns also conceded 233 rushing yards to the Mountaineers.

Despite the defeat, Texas is still in the running to land a spot in the Big 12 title game. The Longhorns need to get back to winning ways in conference play, with road trips to Texas Tech and Kansas sandwiched around a visit to Austin by Iowa State. Then Tom Herman’s team needs West Virginia to beat Oklahoma on Thanksgiving weekend, as the Longhorns hold the tiebreaker over the Sooners after their Red River Shootout victory in October.
