College Football Playoff Projections 2018: Contenders make Week 10 statements
1. Alabama (9-0)
The opponent doesn’t seem to matter to Alabama this year. The real competition seems to be against themselves as they fight for their place in college football history. Critics opined about Alabama’s relatively weak schedule heading into November, and cautioned that the Tide could be in for a rude awakening in Baton Rouge against a battle-tested No. 3 LSU team in maybe the toughest environment in college football.
Instead, it was more of the same as Alabama blasted LSU 29-0 in game that really wasn’t even that close. The LSU defense held up better than anyone else against the Alabama offense, and forced Tua Tagovailoa into his first interception of the season, but the Tide still managed 576 yards of offense and were effective passing and running the football. Tua bounced back from an interception and managed over 300 yards of offense with three total touchdowns, potentially clinching the Heisman in the process.
It was the Alabama defense that was the most impressive, though, constantly harassing Joe Burrow with five sacks and ten tackles-for-loss. LSU managed just 12 net rushing yards against the ferocious Alabama front.
It’s possible that Alabama has the best offensive and defensive player in college football this season with Tua and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. With the Alabama defense rounding into form, Alabama looks as unbeatable as they ever have.
Alabama’s win over LSU clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game in what will be a national championship rematch against Georgia, most likely for a spot in this year’s college football playoff. The Tide doesn’t have time to rest or celebrate their dominant win over rival LSU as they welcome in a physically imposing Mississippi State team to Tuscaloosa next week.
More and more, though, it looks like Alabama and the rest of y’all.
