2. The playoff picture cleared up

Alabama is clearly the best program in college football. The Crimson Tide entered Week 10 as the top-rated program in the country and hit the road to face the 3rd ranked LSU Tigers. Alabama hadn’t really been tested in 2018 and a road trip to Baton Rouge, LA seemed ominous for Saban’s Tide. Then the bell rang and the Tide scored 29 unanswered points absolutely smothering the LSU offense.

Tua Tagovailoa played his worst game of the season but still scored three times while throwing his first interception of the season. The Alabama running game carried the load as Damien Harris ran for 107 yards and a score. He was joined by Najee Harris‘ 13.8 yards per carry and Tagovailoa’s rushing touchdown, too.

The Clemson Tigers boat raced the Louisville Cardinals by a final of 77-16. Trevor Lawrence struggled averaging only 4.9 yards per attempt with two touchdowns but backup Chase Brice played well in his stead. Brice threw three touchdowns while averaging 15.7 yards per attempt. Travis Etienne logged 19.1 yards per carry to set the tone as Clemson ran for 492 yards and five scores against Brian Vangorder’s defense.

At third in the country I have the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame knocked off the Northwestern Wildcats 31-21 in Evanston, IL. The Wildcats are a hard out at home but Ian Book did the job. Book finished with 10.1 yards per attempt and two touchdowns through the air while adding another 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Clayton Thorson threw a touchdown and ran two more but the Wildcats quarterback couldn’t outscore the Irish.

The four-seed is a little more difficult to predict but the Wolverines have now climbed to 8-1 on the season with their only loss coming in Week 1 to Notre Dame. Michigan beat Penn State 42-7 as Don Brown’s defense smothered the Nittany Lions. PSU’s offense was held to 6.9 yards per pass and 2.3 yards per rush while turning the ball over three times. Defensive end Chase Winovich had a sack and a fumble recovery for the Michigan defense.

Washington State beat Cal to keep the Cougars in the playoff race, even if it’s long odds for the Pac-12 Conference in 2018. But you know we would all love to see Mike Leach in the College Football Playoff.
