2. Inability to get over the hump in the Big 12

A culmination of some of these aforementioned issues for Oklahoma State football leads to the inability to contend at the top of the Big 12 standings year after year. Oklahoma State can’t get past a team like the Sooners which acts as an impenetrable hurdle to winning another Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2011.

The opportunity was there to play in the first Big 12 Championship Game since the conference dropped to 10 teams last year behind the efforts of Rudolph and star wide receiver James Washington. Dumbfounding losses to the TCU Horned Frogs and Kansas State Wildcats at home derailed the opportunity to play in the 2017 Big 12 Championship Game.

Bedlam actually decided the Big 12 Title in de facto conference championship games in the regular season finales in 2013, 2015, and 2016. That was before the installment of the Big 12 Championship Game last year. Oklahoma State lost in Bedlam in those three years where it could’ve taken home at least one Big 12 Title.

To reach that greater goal of competing for a national title and a spot in the College Football Playoff starts with at least taking home one conference title. The Big 12 featured the Oklahoma schools at the top of the conference standings for a good portion of the past eight years, with 2018 and 2014 being a different story.
