1. Lack of adjusting when the times call for it

The outcry of Oklahoma State football fans during the 2018 campaign mounts because of this last point. Oklahoma State can’t seem to adjust when the weather around college football calls for it. Even if Gundy has an answer up his sleeve, it seems as if he’s reluctant to ever pull the trigger.

It’s hard to come up for an excuse for why a team isn’t willing to make the necessary adjustments to succeed when the times call for it. Oklahoma State’s players and coaches have a disconnect this fall, which is a repeat of two or three seasons since Gundy took over.

We’re not here to say that Gundy is a bad head coach. He’s done some wonderful things with this program and is one of the better head coaches in the nation. He deserves that respect from this fan base for what he’s accomplished. Yet, he needs to do better to make sure that seasons like this one don’t bottom out as much.

Keeping things the status quo is a big thing for Gundy as the trust factor is a massive part of his decision making for key positions. The quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, etc. usually hold some favor from Gundy during the off-season. Unless he’s forced into it by injury or absolutely detrimental performance, Oklahoma State football doesn’t tend to try much new on either side of the ball within the course of the actual season.
