2. Stability

Kansas is well aware of what they would be getting with Les Miles. Unlike David Beaty at the time he was hired from Texas A&M, Miles is a proven commodity with an established track record. The talent gap from LSU to Kansas might be seismic, but his capabilities as football coach at the Division I level are public knowledge.

Miles has been out of coaching since 2016. During that time he’s spent some time in broadcasting and, of all things, pursuing a career as an actor. He’s made it known he’s interested in just about every head coaching position that has opened up over the last two seasons and so far he’s struck out, failing to even get an interview at most places.

This is Miles’ last shot. Kansas knows it. Miles knows it. He’s not going to follow in the path of a young up-and-coming head coach that turns Kansas into a stepping stone to bigger things. If Miles gets the job he’s going to dig in and make it home. Having continuity for the sake of continuity isn’t the end goal, but for a program like Kansas, any semblance of having it together is a good start.
