There isn’t any reason on a typical Saturday in the fall for the vast majority of the nation to turn on the tv, kick back and watch Kansas football. The Jayhawks aren’t contending for any conference championships or even winning all that many games. Hiring Miles changes any apathetic feelings about the program overnight.

Take a look at what Lane Kiffin has accomplished at Florida Atlantic. Although the job seemed “above him” to some degree, he’s settled in and brought the Owls into the national discourse. Pundits and fans are talking about Florida Atlantic, and it’s all because of Lane Kiffin and what’ he’s done with the program so far.

It doesn’t matter what happens to the state of the FAU program in the near future. Win or lose, the amount of free advertising and national attention afforded to the Owls will have incalculable value on the football team and the university as a whole. Big names drive stories, and Miles is about as big a name as Kansas can get.
