2. Brett Rypien outplayed Fresno State quarterback Marcus McMaryion

On Friday night, offense was in short supply. Two senior quarterbacks were tested by strong defensive units, but Brett Rypien definitely got the better of his counterpart Marcus McMaryion on the stat sheet. It was a rare treat to see two veterans trading punches through the air before the weekend even began in earnest.

Rypien threw for 269 yards with a touchdown and a pick on 24-of-29 passing. The senior was near-perfect passing the ball, and he added 30 yards on eight carries. That stat includes the one sack sustained by Rypien, opening the door for the crafty veteran to bolster his draft stock in the process.

McMaryion had a decent game as well. The former Oregon State quarterback, in his second year as a Bulldog, threw for 283 yards and a touchdown on 24-of-35 passing. Even with the interception on his record, Rypien was more efficient and dynamic pushing the ball down the field and threatening the Fresno State defense.

Ultimately, Rypien was the better quarterback on Friday. His effort proved decisive, as the Broncos dealt the Aggies their first conference loss of 2018.
