Kentucky football may have killed their New Year’s Six chances with a loss to Tennessee. What did we learn about the Wildcats and the Volunteers?

I guess losing to Georgia this year has the same effect on SEC East teams as losing to Alabama has on SEC West teams. First it was Florida, losing to Missouri after losing to Georgia to knock them out of the East race. The same has happened now to Kentucky. They lost to Georgia, giving the Bulldogs the East title and now they have been bested by the likes of Tennessee.

What did we learn about these two teams?

For Tennessee, we learned that this team is once again showing that they are the most up and down team in the SEC this year. They have beat Auburn and now Kentucky, both games that no one expected them to win. However, they nearly lost to Charlotte and basically been blown out by everyone else.

We are starting to see a confidence in the Vols that hasn’t been around in awhile for them and that’s great news for new head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

For Kentucky, this one was disappointing to stay the least. At least Auburn played Tennessee close and were able to nearly win. Kentucky lost 24-7 and were absolutely bested in every aspect of the game. The Wildcat defense was decent enough, but their offense was stagnant once again and it bit them in a butt when it mattered most. As good as Benny Snell is, it just isn’t enough to carry their team to big time wins that they need to make it to their goals which at this point is a New Year’s Six Bowl.

Simply put, I guess when basketball season started the football team checked out. That is two straight losses for the Wildcats and they now have an uphill battle to reach what once looked like an extremely attainable goal.
