Texas A&M Football: Aggies regain swagger with win over Ole Miss
By Shelbie Warr
1. The Aggies finally finished and it’s thanks to Jimbo Fisher.
This Aggie team could be 9-1 right now, however, finishing games late has been a struggle for them in 2018. The Mississippi State loss wasn’t overly excruciating as they gave up the lead and were dominated in the second half and the loss to Alabama was expected, but Clemson and Auburn…those hurt y’all.
The Aggies were within inches of knocking off No. 2 Clemson in Week 2, but came up short no matter how much anger people throw at the refs in that one. Against Auburn in Week 10, a late interception threw Kellen Mond off and it was just a lost cause. Those two were the biggest examples of the struggle to finish for the Maroon and White.
However, Jimbo Fisher focused on that big time in practice this week and it showed as the Aggies got their first SEC West win at home since October of 2015 against Mississippi State. If that isn’t a depressing statistic, I’m not sure what is. Fisher won’t let that tradition continue though. He is set to make a culture change in Aggieland and it starts with games like this.
Texas A&M outscored Ole Miss 17-3 in the fourth quarter, including the late touchdown by Trayveon Williams to respond to the field goal that brought Ole Miss within 7. That is the epitome of finishing and not letting big time screw ups push them game into lost cause status.
