1. Brock Purdy, QB
How smart does Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell look now? For all those who were calling for him to relinquish play-calling duties, Campbell has looked like a genius since inserting true freshman Brock Purdy into the role of starting quarterback.
All Purdy has done is lead Iowa State to a school-record five consecutive league wins, putting together a 5-0 mark as a starter. He threw for 230 yards and a touchdown, adding another 56 on the ground with a score.
Purdy completed 18 of the 23 passes he put up on a cold, windy day inside Jack Trice Stadium, as the contest earned a spot in the top-10 of coldest games Iowa State has ever played in.
For the season, Purdy, a native of Arizona who didn’t seem to mind the chilly temperatures one bit, has completed over 68 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions, recording 1,315 yards. He also has 253 yards and two scores rushing.
