Big 12 Football Power Rankings 2018: Oklahoma the lone CFP contender?
Oklahoma State was exactly two yards away from beating the best team in the conference on Saturday, so they move up a spot to sixth. The Cowboys looked like they were supposed to all season long on Saturday, putting up lofty numbers on offense and playing absolutely zero defense. It certainly helped that they were playing Oklahoma’s defense, but it was encouraging to see Chuba Hubbard and Taylor Cornelius play so well. Oklahoma State is probably going to finish with six wins, make a bowl, and bounce back next season with a better quarterback.
Oh, and Mike Gundy needs to stop talking. It’s rich for a man who makes five million dollars a year and shows interest in every job he’s offered to complain about a lack of loyalty from his unpaid players. His quote was completely insane, inappropriate, and unnecessary.
I’m really not sure what to think of Texas Tech’s seven point loss to Texas, because they managed to look pretty terrible for the first 45 minutes of the game, storm all the way back, and still lose. I can’t ding them too much because they were without their starting quarterback, and they’re still quite a bit better than any of the teams behind them, but they don’t earn any kind of bump either.
Texas Tech is pretty firmly the fifth best team in the Big 12, and they’re probably going to finish with six or seven wins yet again. Is that enough to keep Kliff Kingsbury around? Probably.
