Big 12 Football Power Rankings 2018: Oklahoma the lone CFP contender?
West Virginia, once again, did exactly what they were supposed to do. They crushed TCU quickly, and now they just have to get through Oklahoma State to set up a matchup with Oklahoma. That’s easier said than done, but West Virginia is closer to a playoff berth now than they’ve ever been, and I think if they’re gonna do it under Dana Holgorsen, it’ll happen this year.
Oklahoma’s defense still stinks. That’s not a surprise, but it’s important to say it, because it’s a pretty big chunk of football, even if they don’t want it to be. Luckily, their offense is fantastic, and won them yet another game on Saturday against Oklahoma State. I don’t know if a one loss Oklahoma, with this defense, gets into the playoff over a one-loss Big Ten champion, be it Ohio State or Michigan.
However, Oklahoma has cleared their biggest hurdle before West Virginia in two weeks on the way to the playoff, and should be well rested after trampling Kansas this Saturday.
