3. X-factor: Special Teams

Special teams play a huge factor in football games across the country. Without a doubt, the weakness of this Iowa State team is their special teams. Punter Corey Dunn ranks 106th out of 125 eligible punters in yards per punt this season and has been wildly inconsistent. Many fans can point to Dunn’s performance against Iowa as a big reason why the Cyclones came away from Iowa City with a loss. Connor Assalley has had his ups and downs as well, but has been much better in recent weeks.

Texas special teams have been only a little better if not the same as Iowa State’s. Longhorns punter Ryan Bujcevski has only averaged 39.9 yards per punt, ranking him 92nd in the nation. Cameron Dicker has made 14-of-19 field goals this year, but has the memorable game-winning field goal against Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

The team that makes the most plays on special teams will win this game. While it is hard to tell what team will do so, I’m leaning towards Texas on winning the facet as of right now.
