2. Future is cloudy after D’Eriq King injury

Houston, after gaining the upper-hand in the American Athletic Conference West division, faces questions in the wake of quarterback D’Eriq King to a non-contact injury in the first half.

Houston improved its conference mark to 5-2 with the victory. With a half-game lead now over SMU, the Cougars will either need to defeat Memphis next week in addition to at least one loss in the Mustangs’ final two games in order to reach the AAC Championship Game.

The future, however, is cloudy due to King’s injury.  A true freshman backup quarterback being thrust into the spotlight does not necessarily bode well for a squad hoping to potentially upset No. 11-ranked Central Florida.

For the 2018 season, King has thrown for 2,900 yards and 35 touchdowns.  Before his injury Thursday night, he had thrown for 82 yards and one score.
