Mississippi State Football: 3 takeaways from home win over Arkansas
1. Run game will carry this offense
Sure, Mississippi State had four touchdown passes, but Nick Fitzgerald isn’t that big of a threat through the air. He’s more of a running threat even though he had a huge game passing the ball, at least touchdown-wise. But this run game is going to carry the Bulldogs into the postseason.
Aeris Williams had a big game on the ground, reaching 100 yards and Fitzgerald added 85. The Bulldogs can’t count on the pass game to be consistent this season, so running it 75 percent of the time is probably a good move.
Also, with the defense playing well, Mississippi State’s run game just has to be serviceable for the Bulldogs to be victorious like they were against Arkansas on Saturday.
If Williams is playing well and Fitzgerald is running effectively, not many defenses in the SEC not named Alabama can stop the Bulldogs. Mississippi State finished the game with 287 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 47 attempts. That’s an impressive 6.1 yards per carry as a team.
