2. Texas contained Brock Purdy, Iowa State all night

Since Brock Purdy took over control of the Iowa State offense prior to a win over Oklahoma State in October, the unit has been firing on all cylinders. They scored 48 vs. the Cowboys, put up 30 on West Virginia, 40 against Texas Tech, 27 vs. Kansas and 28 last week against Baylor.

All that hype, though, must have caught the attention of the Texas defense, which rose up and contained Purdy and company over four quarters. Iowa State finished with just over 200 yards of total offense and committed two turnovers, averaging only 2.6 yards per rush.

Purdy, who had not been held to negative yards rushing since taking over as the starter, averaged just under six yards per pass. The Longhorns allowed only 5-of-14 third-down attempts to be converted, as well.

It’s been an up-and-down season for Texas on the defensive side of the ball. They looked to be prepared for Kyler Murray and Oklahoma before allowing a late rally that almost cost them that game. However, they have held USC, TCU, Kansas State, Baylor and now Iowa State to under 20 points.
