UCLA Football: 3 takeaways from Bruins’ big rivalry win over USC
By Shelbie Warr
Despite a close game in the first 30 minutes, a lack of offensive output from the Trojans in the second half allowed UCLA football to storm to victory.
UCLA and USC is always a big time game, no matter how the season has gone for either team. One was 5-5, the other 2-7. However, when this one dawns- records go out the window and it is simply about playing for the city of Los Angeles.
These are kids who played in high school together whether it be on the same team or different teams. These are kids who mark this game on their calendars year after year. And with all that, it was yet another exciting matchup. Let’s talk takeaways shall we?
3. This rivalry is good for college football
Inner state rivalries are a big deal, but this- this is an inner city rivalry. This is two storied, big time programs from the same conference playing for the same spot at the top (sometimes) and it is unmatched by any other rivalry in my opinion. This game means something to every single player on that field.
There is a lot of controversy in college football right now. Lots of arguments on what is good and what is bad in terms of new rules and how they are enforced. There is a lot of frustration over certain teams being dominant (looking at you Alabama) while others struggle to stay relevant.
This game though is something that you can really count on to be a close call every single year. This game is going to be a big time fight year after year. That won’t change no matter what. Thank you to UCLA and USC for making Week 12 an exciting one for us all.
