After losing 36-3 at Yankee Stadium against No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon, Syracuse is destined to fall down the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 when they are released next on Tuesday. But they won’t fall completely out of the rankings this week, given that they lost to an undefeated top-four team and remain one of the better ACC squads this year.

In the loss, Eric Dungey was knocked out of the game early with an undisclosed upper-body injury that will be reassessed once the team returns home to Syracuse. His absence ruined any chance the Orange might have had of upsetting their higher-ranked opponent in the neutral-site showdown, as the Orange finished with only 234 total yards of offense all day.

Now they will probably fall six to eight spots this week, based on how heavily the selection committee docks the Orange for such a big margin of defeat. But they will still be ranked heading into the regular-season finale against Boston College, and a New Year’s Six bid is still a possibility if they finish 9-3.
