College Football Playoff Rankings 2018: Top 25 projections for Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Would the College Football Playoff selection committee dare drop West Virginia completely out of their Top 25 after the Mountaineers fell 45-41 at Oklahoma State in the penultimate game of their 2018 regular season? It is highly unlikely, but Dana Holgorsen’s team is going to drop at least 10 spots this week after suffering their second loss of the year.
Will Grier was a respectable 27-of-48 at quarterback for the Mountaineers, throwing for 364 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat. Kennedy McKoy added 148 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. But the defense allowed Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius to lead a comeback bid by the hosts, as he finished with five touchdown passes against the Mountaineers secondary.
Now West Virginia must beat Oklahoma on Thanksgiving weekend to ensure they land a spot in the Big 12 championship game this year. A loss would open the door for another team to squeak past the Mountaineers, and it would knock Holgorsen’s crew completely out of the College Football Playoff rankings.
