Iowa State’s reign of terror finally came to an end on Saturday in their 24-10 loss to Texas. It was a rough night for Brock Purdy and the entire Iowa State offense, and Texas looked just phenomenal on defense. The Cyclone defense kept them in the game pretty much all night long, but they just couldn’t score enough to keep it close.

While Iowa State won’t be competing for the conference title, things are still very good in Ames. They’re probably going to beat Kansas State, and if they get to play Incarnate Word in early December (Incarnate Word may have an FCS playoff game to play), they’ll be 8-4. That’s an awesome year for Iowa State.

West Virginia’s terrible defense finally caught up to them on Saturday in their 45-41 loss to Oklahoma State. I was pretty sure it would at some point, but was still a bit surprised to see it against the Cowboys. Nonetheless, West Virginia still has a chance to make the Big 12 title game, and they have a bit less pressure now that the playoff is off the table. I don’t think they can beat Oklahoma, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
