Georgia Football: 3 takeaways from Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate blowout
By Zach Bigalke
1. Georgia has a real shot at winning the SEC title against Alabama
With a defense that entered the Georgia Tech game ranked among the top 15 in the country and an offense that averaged nearly 40 yards per game, Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs justified their position among the national contenders for the four College Football Playoff spots with an emphatic performance on Saturday afternoon.
The 24-point win over the Yellow Jackets allows Georgia to head to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 1 with strong momentum. They get a rematch of the 2017-2018 College Football Playoff championship game against top-ranked Alabama, and they are a more experienced bunch that could threaten the Crimson Tide once again.
Last January, the Bulldogs were ahead of Alabama at halftime of the national championship showdown. But Georgia was unable to figure out Tua Tagovailoa when the freshman entered the game in the second half. Even so, Alabama still needed overtime to take down Georgia and claim the national title.
With more tape of the Heisman front-runner and a strong defense that had the talent to contain Alabama’s dynamic offense, Georgia has a real shot at pulling off an upset over the defending national champions and winning back-to-back SEC crowns.
