Iowa State survived Senior Day in Ames with a late 42-38 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. The No. 25 Cyclones, hanging on as the final team above the cut line in the College Football Playoff rankings entering Thanksgiving week, will hang on to a spot in the Top 25 for another week.

Brock Purdy wasn’t perfect, throwing for two interceptions along with his two touchdowns. But the Iowa State quarterback also finished with 337 yards on 20-of-27 passing and added 37 rushing yards. David Montgomery led the way on the ground, adding 149 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 19 carries.

The Cyclones finished third in the Big 12 standings, landing ahead of West Virginia thanks to their head-to-head win. Though they won’t play in the conference championship game, Matt Campbell’s team gets a chance to make up their 12th game after flooding canceled their season opener against FCS South Dakota State. The Cyclones will make up that missed opportunity with a game against another FCS team, 7-3 Drake, on December 1.
