College Football Playoff Rankings 2018: Top 25 projections for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Iowa needed a last-second field goal to prevail 31-28 at home against Nebraska on Black Friday. Miguel Recinos punched the 41-yard attempt through the uprights as the clock wound down to zeroes, and the Hawkeyes escaped overtime against a Cornhuskers team that had won four of its past five entering the regular-season finale.
On a rainy day in Iowa City, Nate Stanley finished 16-of-27 for 152 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air. Mekhi Sargent led the way on the ground, piling on 173 yards and a touchdown against the Huskers defense. Toren Young added another rushing touchdown and 83 yards as the Hawkeyes finished with 266 yards out of the backfield.
With an 8-4 finish in the regular season and three of their four losses coming by a single score, the College Football Playoff selection committee is going to bump Iowa back up into their Top 25 rankings ahead of the championship weekend. Now they will wait and see where they end up bowling, with a nine-win season still a legitimate possibility.
