The winner of the game was destined to hold on to a spot in the College Football Playoff Top 25 and the spot opposite Fresno State in the Mountain West championship game next weekend. In the first half of the game, Boise State took a three-point lead against No. 21 Utah State in a battle for the MWC Mountain title. And the Broncos held on for the 33-24 win at home to set up a MWC title game rematch from last season.

Boise State took the lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to 200 passing yards from Brett Rypien, who completed 13 of his 21 attempts against the Bulldogs at home. Alexander Mattison punched in two touchdown runs in the first half, as the Broncos put themselves in a favorable position at home.

As Boise State held on in this contest, they will slot in somewhere in the low 20s this week ahead of their conference championship game battle against Fresno State. The Broncos will get another duel against their Milk Can rival on the Smurf Turf, the third time in the past two years the teams have met in Boise.
