LSU fell short on their trip to face No. 22 Texas A&M in College Station on Saturday evening, falling 74-72 in seven overtimes in the highest-scoring game in FBS history. The Tigers missed their chance to get a 10th win in 2018, and they will fall out of the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings as a result of their heartbreaker at Kyle Field.

Joe Burrow finished 25-of-38 for 270 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran for 100 yards and three scores. It was the most complete game from the Tigers quarterback yet, and it was bolstered by a 61-yard performance from Nick Brossette on the ground. But in the seventh overtime, the inability to punch in a two-point conversion proved the doom of the Bayou Bengals.

LSU wasn’t going to get to the SEC championship no matter what happened in the rivalry game against Texas A&M, but it will be harder to get into a New Year’s Six bowl after this defeat to the Aggies. They are left to wait and see where they land in the conference bowl hierarchy this season after falling short in the longest game of the year.
