With their 74-72 win in seven overtimes over No. 7 LSU, Texas A&M ensured that they would finish the season in the College Football Playoff Top 25 in their first season led by new head coach Jimbo Fisher. The Aggies downed the Tigers at home on Saturday night in College Station, locking up their eighth win and promising a jump up a few spots into the high teens of the rankings this week.

Trayveon Williams was the key to success, as he ran for 198 yards and two touchdowns. The rushing effort by Williams was buttressed by Kellen Mond’s passing. The quarterback finished below 50 percent passing, but he threw for 287 yards and six scores on the night. Given the game wound on as long as it did, the fact that the Aggies still held LSU below 500 total yards of offense is notable.

The Aggies now wait to see where they land in the SEC bowl pecking order. After downing the Tigers, they will be in a better position to land a solid Power Five opponent this postseason. If they win against their bowl opponent, Fisher can finish with nine wins and set themselves up with a strong foundation for 2019.
