It’s possible Tom Herman could flip a couple recruits following the success of the Longhorns’ 2018 campaign, but Texas still isn’t “back” yet. Linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd could help boost the defense, though, inching them closer and closer to the long-awaited trek back to the top.

The 6-foot-2 Westlake High School recruit demanded interest from a handful of Pac-12 schools, along with Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and others, but verbally committed to the Longhorns on March 31, 2018.

The California-native turned down offers from UCLA and USC — two programs further from the top than Texas — and could see immediate playing time in Austin.

Floyd is ranked the No. 55 recruit by 247Sports, No. 57 by ESPN, and No. 113 by Rivals. Todd Orlando, Texas’ linebackers coach, has been the primary recruiter for Floyd.
