2. Someone will hastily proclaim, “Texas is back!”

You know one of the announcers will be eager to say it.

Since Mack Brown’s last season at Texas in 2013, the Longhorns have not won more than seven games in a season. That four-season stretch of ineptitude includes three losing seasons under Charlie Strong and much national derision.

The obsession to declare Texas “being back” isn’t a hard one to explain — the boys in burnt orange are a storied program, have an easily identifiable brand, and have resources and facilities that are the envy of most football programs nationwide.

Expect Texas to make a few big plays early. Maybe wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey will make an acrobatic touchdown catch. Maybe quarterback Sam Ehlinger will stay cool and collected in the pocket as he dices apart a vulnerable OU secondary. Regardless, you’ll know it when you hear it: Texas will take a seemingly decisive lead, and all will be ready to celebrate the Longhorns’ first Big 12 title in ten years.
