Utah football may be a comfortable underdog in Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game, but here’s why the Utes will beat Washington.
Friday night’s Washington vs. Utah Pac-12 Championship Game will be one to keep an eye on as it kicks off the weekend’s Power Five title contests. This is the first of the Power Five title games and the Huskies will be heavy favorites over the Utes.
The Utes have yet to win a Pac-12 title since joining the conference under Kyle Whittingham, but there’s a first for everything, right?
Utah may not be given much of a chance by the national media, especially without Tyler Huntley or Zack Moss, but the Utes have as good a chance as any Power Five team to win the conference title this weekend.
Here’s why Utah will beat Washington on Friday night.
5. No one is giving Utah a chance — and that’s how the Utes like it
Utah plays fairly well in the underdog role and has under Kyle Whittingham, for the most part, which is why this matchup is intriguing. Washington is a 5.5-point favorite even though both teams are 9-3, but there’s more talk than just the spread — many believe that without Tyler Huntley and Zack Moss, the Utes are more than doomed.
No one is giving Utah a chance to win this one with Jason Shelley and Armand Shyne against a tough Washington defense, but that’s the kind of game this team will win.
In fact, not many people expected Utah to contend with Oregon three weeks ago or win as comfortably as they did at Colorado two weeks ago, but Shelley and Shyne led the way and the defense is playing as well as it has all year.
There’s no way Utah wins this with backups at running back and quarterback, right? They’re playing with nothing to lose and essentially no one’s backing, and that’s dangerous for Washington.
