Utah Football vs. Washington: PAC-12 Title Game bold predictions
1. Utah gets revenge
Even though Utah football and Washington compete in separate divisions in the PAC-12, the two teams met up earlier this year. In an entertaining showdown at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sep. 15, the Huskies got the best of the Utes by the final score of 21-7. Utah’s offense couldn’t get much going in a defensive struggle in Salt Lake City.
Moreover, two of the more defensively stout teams in the PAC-12 head for a rematch between the No. 11 and 17 ranked teams in the nation. Since the loss to Washington, Utah has just one loss. That one loss was the most confusing for the Utes this fall, in a 38-20 defeat on the road to the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Meanwhile, Washington was up and down all year. Little consistency was ever found on the offensive side of the ball for the Huskies. That inconsistency was thanks to the up and down play of Browning and a lingering injury to star senior running back Myles Gaskin. A healthy Washington squad is a very formidable opponent for the Utes here.
Whichever way this game falls, the ground games are going to be pivotal. Utah operates on a run-first basis behind Huntley and Shyne. Washington has a deep backfield that is sparked by the efforts of Gaskin. If Utah’s run defense holds steady in one of the final games of Gaskin’s collegiate career, it could get revenge on the Huskies for the 14-point loss back in September.
