NC State belatedly closed out their regular season after making up a game against West Virginia that was canceled by Hurricane Florence with a showdown against East Carolina on Saturday. The Wolfpack routed the Pirates in Raleigh, finishing off the year with a resounding 58-3 statement even though it came against a sub-.500 Group of Five squad.

The Wolfpack will launch back up into the College Football Playoff Top 25 after their ninth win of the season, reclaiming a spot they lost on November 13 after a loss to Wake Forest. Dave Doeren’s crew boasts one of the top passing attacks in the country, with veteran quarterback Ryan Finley enjoying great protection and a talented group of receivers.

A New Year’s Six spot is going to be too much to ask for an NC State side that will return to the College Football Playoff rankings somewhere in the mid-20s. But the Wolfpack will be ranked as they head into what will likely be one of the best non-New Year’s Six bowl games of the 2018 postseason.
