2. Texas

While the Texas Longhorns continue being asked if they’re finally “back,” it would no longer be a question under Urban Meyer. They’ve certainly improved under his former assistant, Tom Herman, but the student rarely eclipses the teacher.

After dominating at Florida and Ohio State, owning the state of Texas would be the biggest challenge to date for Meyer. There’s more competition for recruiting in such a talented state, but much like at USC, the aura of Texas attracts special athletes, while Meyer himself can recruit with the best of them.

In such a wide-open conference, though, some of Meyer’s “best talents” could either be labeled average or become legendary. Think of some of the defensive backs he’s had at Ohio State – Eli Apple, Vonn Bell, Gareon Conley, Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore, Denzel Ward – now imagine those guys in a pass-happy Big 12. With talent like that on the back-end, I’d imagine it would shift the focus from passing nearly every down to a more balanced attack.

Herman doesn’t seem to be leaving the Longhorns any time soon, but if Meyer were interested, Texas would have to listen to one of the game’s all-time greats.
