2. New head coach Ryan Day will have his chance to shine

New head coach Ryan Day’s time in Columbus has been spent as quarterbacks coach, co-offensive coordinator, and the sole offensive coordinator. In addition, Day served the first three games of 2018 as the acting head coach during Meyer’s suspension.

The 39-year-old will provide a lesson to several other programs in recent memory: you’ve got to go find the next coaching star, not find a coaching legend of yesteryear to try to restore luster to your program. It’s a lesson that North Carolina and the Oakland Raiders may find out sooner rather than later.

Was there doubt that Lincoln Riley could handle the pressure of becoming a young head coach at Oklahoma? Definitely. Does anyone harbor those same concerns about the 35-year-old now?

Day’s experience in brief stints in the NFL with the Eagles and 49ers as quarterbacks coach, in addition to his record as offensive coordinator with Temple and Boston College, should give Buckeyes fans reasons for optimism.
