2018 Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Can Kyler Murray catch Tua Tagovailoa?
I’m not on the Murray bandwagon just yet. He has been very impressive this year, posting video game-like numbers while leading the Sooners to the college football playoff. In the Big 12 championship game, Murray put up another excellent performance against the Texas Longhorns.
He finished the game 25 for 34 with 379 yards, with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Murray has been dynamic running the ball all season, but he was slowed down by the Longhorns front seven as he ran 10 times for only 39 yards.
It was the first time he was held under 40 yards rushing since the Week 1 blowout of Florida Atlantic. On the season Murray was 241 for 340, with 4,053 yards passing and 40 touchdowns, while rushing the ball 123 times for 892 yards and 11 more scores.
Murray’s numbers blow Tua’s out of the water, but with a defense keeping every opponent in the game his number should be viewed with a grain of salt.
Kyler should head to the MLB next season after being a top 10 pick in the MLB draft, but he still has a strong shot at winning the Heisman.
