Bahamas Bowl 2018: 3 reasons to watch Toledo vs. FIU
By Zach Bigalke
The Bahamas Bowl celebrates its fifth year of existence with a new title sponsor. Here are three reasons why you won’t want to miss the action from Nassau.
Launched in 2014, the Bahamas Bowl has become a staple of the bowl calendar. When it launched, the bowl offered the first college football bowl game outside the continental United States since the 1937 Bacardi Bowl in Havana. It was part of a string of games added to the calendar over the past decade that helped balloon the number of bowl opportunities for a growing FBS.
Partnered with the MAC and Conference USA, the bowl gives a couple of Group of Five teams an opportunity to go to Nassau for the postseason. It is hardly a terrible tradeoff for reaching bowl eligibility, especially for teams that are in conferences that normally miss out on prime destinations.
While still young, the Bahamas Bowl offers an attractive place to cap the end of a season well played. Who wouldn’t want to head to Nassau in December? But there is also a football game being played, and this year the two teams that landed the choice opportunity are Toledo and FIU.
What compelling reasons are there to spend your Friday night watching the Rockets and the Panthers contest the Bahamas Bowl from Thomas Robinson Stadium? From the action on the field to the spectacle all around, here are three prime reasons why you should be tuning in on December 21.
