1. You don’t want to miss the sheer novelty of bowling in the Bahamas

Now that this game has been going for half a decade, it has moved on from its former title sponsor. Whereas the Bahamas Bowl was synonymous with Popeye’s chicken, it now serves as a branding opportunity for… an industrial park in Illinois.

Yes, you read that right. The naming rights were bought by Elk Grove Village, home of the largest industrial park in the country, as a way to brand itself and entice new businesses. It isn’t quite the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl, but it is getting close.

No matter who they get to sponsor the game, though, it is a thoroughly unique venue to watch a football game. The venue itself, Thomas Robinson Stadium, was built in 1981 and has twice been renovated. It primarily hosts elite IAAF track and field events, but has also served as a location for the Bahamas national soccer team.

Just the atmosphere itself is unique for college football. An average 13,000 or so fans a year have been treated to one of the hidden gems of the bowl season, a game with modest roots that should remain a bowl favorite for years to come.
