Texas Tech made their hiring of Matt Wells official recently, and I have some basic thoughts on it. Firstly, I’m fine with the hire. I don’t love Wells, but he did well at Utah State, and I think his style can work in the Big 12. I’m not sure if he’s going to make Texas Tech anything more than a consistent bowl team, but that’s better than Kliff Kingsbury did. Secondly, I think Texas Tech could’ve been a bit more creative. Like I said, I don’t hate it, but Wells doesn’t move the needle like Littrell or Neal Brown would. It could still work, but it isn’t a home run right now.

Oklahoma State is headed to the Liberty Bowl on December 31 to face off with former Big 12 rival Missouri. I don’t have strong feelings on that game other than thinking it’ll have quite a bit of scoring. I do have thoughts on Oklahoma State. I think the Cowboys probably bounce back next year with a better quarterback. Does that mean winning the Big 12? No. But I think ten wins is fair to expect in 2019 with whoever wins the quarterback job.
