5. DXL Frisco Bowl (Wednesday, Dec. 19)

The details: The DXL Frisco Bowl will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The San Diego State Aztecs will face the Ohio Bobcats in an intriguing matchup. Rocky Long’s Aztecs finished the 2018 regular season with a 7-5 record and ranked 38th per the S&P+. Frank Solich‘s Bobcats ended the season 8-4 and ranked 45th per the S&P+.

Why you should watch: You should watch the Frisco Bowl because it pits the Bobcats’ ninth-best offense per the S&P+ against the Aztecs 25th-ranked defense. This is also a battle of two veteran coaches in Long and Solich who have found success later in their head coaching careers. The Aztecs never found that all-star running back but Juwan Washington did run for 870 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

Bobcats quarterback Nathan Rourke is a big time player for Ohio. Frank Solich was a Nebraska option coach for the majority of his career but reinvented his offense to fit modern schemes. Now the Bobcats are getting true dual-threat play from Rourke who finished the season with 3,000 total yards and 35 total touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

Fun factor: Happy hour at Applebee’s. You enjoy the 2-for-1’s but it’s not quite a night out at the AFCA Convention.

Prediction: Ohio by 7
