College Football: 5 must-watch under the radar bowls in 2018
4. NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl (Saturday, Dec. 29)
The details: The NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1:15 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. Arkansas State (8-4) finished the regular season ranked 50th per the S&P+ while 7-5 Nevada finished 79th. Red Wolves head coach Blake Anderson‘s bowl record is 1-3 which leaves a lot for ASU fans to be desired. Nevada coach Jay Norvell is in only his second season as a head coach and his first bowl game appearance.
Why you should watch: Neither team has a part of their S&P+ ranking that stands out. However, Arkansas State and Nevada both play a hard hitting form of football that will be fun to watch before the College Football Playoff games later that afternoon and night. It’s your last chance to see Arkansas State quarterback Justice Hansen behind center for the Red Wolves. He threw for over 3,100 yards, adding another 300-plus on the ground, and scored 33 total touchdowns with only six interceptions.
Nevada quarterback Ty Gangi also threw for over 3,100 yards with 26 total touchdowns and 11 interceptions on the season. The senior quarterback was joined in the backfield by freshman running back Toa Taua who ran for 800 yards with six touchdowns in 2018’s regular season.
Fun factor: Food truck on your lunch break. It’ll be a nice ‘oh wow, that’s cool’ before the main course which will be served later in the day.
Prediction: Arkansas State by 5
