40. Camellia Bowl: Georgia Southern vs. Eastern Michigan (Dec. 15)
As fun as bowl games are, there are some that just stick out as oddities that feel contrived. The Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, held at the 25,000-seat Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama, has been operating since 2014 and prepares for its fifth anniversary in the bowl calendar.
Yes, it provides an opportunity for a Sun Belt team and a MAC team to make it to a postseason contest. But this year that means a 7-5 Eastern Michigan team that finished in a three-way tie for second in the MAC East takes on a 9-3 Georgia Southern team that fell to third in the Sun Belt East.
These are two of the best teams in the country at generating turnovers. But they are also among the best in the FBS at avoiding giveaways. It is going to be interesting to see if one of these tendencies wins out over the other, the games earlier in the day on December 15 are more interesting.
If you’re already watching football that day, you might as well keep watching. But there is no reason to make this appointment viewing unless you’re an alumnus or otherwise fanatical about one of these two sets of Eagles.
