39. Arizona Bowl: Arkansas State vs. Nevada (Dec. 29)
Though Arkansas State finished with a better overall record than Louisiana, their head-to-head loss against the Ragin’ Cajuns stood between the Red Wolves and a shot in the inaugural Sun Belt championship game. They will head to Tucson for the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl with a chance to reach nine wins this season when they take on 7-5 Nevada.
The Wolf Pack did a great job of staying disciplined and avoiding as many flags as possible. But nobody comes to the stadium to watch teams execute plays without penalties. Other than their offensive line, which has been among the top 20 in the country at protecting quarterback Ty Gangi, and a defense that has been great at clamping down in the red zone, there has been little to celebrate in Reno.
Justice Hansen was quietly among the top 20 most-efficient quarterbacks in the country. He could put up one more big game in a Red Wolves uniform before the redshirt senior concludes his college eligibility.
With the game airing opposite the Belk Bowl between South Carolina and Virginia, the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl is one of those games worth flipping to once in a while if you’re already watching other games.
