37. Celebration Bowl: North Carolina A&T vs. Alcorn State (Dec. 15)

While The Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl is technically an FCS championship for historical black colleges and universities pitting the SWAC champion against the winner of the MEAC, this game precedes the first FBS bowl game and provides an even more entertaining experience than at least two of the other games on opening day of the postseason.

This year, the SWAC champion is Alcorn State. The Braves opened the year with a 41-0 loss at Georgia Tech, and they also sustained defeats against Alabama State and at FBS New Mexico State. Alcorn State boasts the eighth-best rushing offense in the FCS and the No. 5 rushing defense in the country. They also have the top front seven in generating sacks and tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

MEAC champion North Carolina A&T is playing in their third Celebration Bowl since its inception in 2015. This year, the Aggies knocked off East Carolina on the road and finished the regular season 9-2. N.C. A&T also boasts one of the top defenses in the country against the run, ranking No. 2 ahead of the Braves.

If you like defense, you’ll love this showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. One of these teams is going to claim the title of the best HBCU team of 2018, while also reaching 10 wins. For the Aggies and the Braves, the stakes are far higher than they are for some of the other teams playing on December 15. That alone will make this game a watchable experience.
