DXL Frisco Bowl

San Diego State (7-5) vs Ohio (8-4)

Frisco, Texas

December 19 – 8 p.m. ET

TV: ESPN

San Diego State really sputtered down the stretch of the season, losing four of their last five games to spoil a fast start. It’s hard to believe that the Aztecs that finished the season with baffling home losses to the likes of UNLV and Hawai’i was the same team that beat Arizona State and Boise State early in the season.

San Diego State sputtered down the stretch with little offense to speak of. Ohio, on the other hand, finished fast after a slow beginning.

After a 3-3 start, the Bobcats won five of their last six games, with their lone loss coming by two points on the road against Miami (OH). Their strong finish included a shellacking of Buffalo by 35 points in November. Ohio leaned on senior RB A.J. Ouellette down the stretch, rushing for at least 168 yards in each of the last three games.

Junior QB Nathan Rourke has the dual-threat ability to get Ohio out of jams as well, and in another game that should feature plenty of defense, I’ll go with the team that has more playmakers, although if the Aztecs figure it out over bowl practices they certainly have the talent to pull this one out.

Pick: Ohio 30, San Diego State 24

Confidence Points: 4
