3. Iowa State D vs. Air Raid

Many would think that Iowa State playing an offense from a different conference would be a bit of an adventure. However, Washington State is built just like many of the teams Iowa State sees week in and week out in the Big 12.

Mike Leach is one of the founders and innovators of the Air Raid offense, which he and Hal Mumme created during their time as coaches at Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Some of the Big 12 teams that apply the principles of the Air Raid include Oklahoma with Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma State with Mike Gundy and Texas Tech for essentially the last 25 years, including throughout Leach’s tenure as head coach in Lubbock.
