Georgia Football: Top 5 potential transfer destinations for Justin Fields
2. Florida State Seminoles
Florida State was probably runner-up for Fields’ signature in last season’s recruiting cycle, and they figure to play a prominent role this time around as well.
The ‘Noles would probably be number one on this list if not for the presence of Deondre Francois, who will almost certainly be back in Tallahassee for his senior season in 2019.
Francois didn’t have the best season bouncing back from the devastating knee injury he suffered in the season opener to Alabama in 2017, but it’s hard to place the bulk of the blame in his lap when Florida State’s offensive line struggled to the degree it struggled.
Francois spent the majority of 2018 running for his life, and he didn’t have the benefit of any discernible running game to lean on.
After missing a bowl game for the first time in 36 years, no starting job will be safe as Willie Taggart enters his season second in Tallahassee. He simply cannot afford for that to be the case after one 5-7 season led to public outcries for his job after just a single season at his post.
Fields would be given the opportunity to usurp Francois for the starting job in 2019, and might just be able to do that.
Again, it’s no guarantee that Fields will be granted a waiver to play right away next season, and if he isn’t, then Florida State probably makes the most sense due to Francois graduating after 2019, opening up the job for Fields in 2020.
