2. Quarterback whisperer?

Much has been made (in Ohio State circles) of Fields’s affinity for Ryan Day, who will replace Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes’ head coach following the Rose Bowl. The fondness seems to stem from Day’s work with Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, a Heisman finalist and friend of Fields.

More understandable is speculation that Fields would like to team up with Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. The Sooners’ offense has produced two Heisman-winning quarterbacks in as many years and three playoff berths.

But it shouldn’t be forgotten that Taggart, who played quarterback at Western Kentucky, has a solid track record coaching quarterbacks, going back to his days at South Florida, where he made dangerous use of quarterback Quinton Flowers.

The quarterbacks Taggart inherited at Florida State were recruited by former head coach Jimbo Fisher to run a pro-style offense. However, a dual-threat like Justin Fields would fit perfectly in Taggart’s offense, filling the Quinton Flowers role. It’s an enticing possibility that Fields should not overlook.
