Ed Oliver’s Impact, exposed

Houston’s star Defensive Tackle, Ed Oliver, has a very good chance at being a Top 5 NFL Draft pick in 2019, if not the number one pick.

Oliver experienced a lower body injury in the middle of the season. Prior to his injury, the Cougars were 7-1. However, as Oliver sat out games and attempted to play at less than 100 percent, Houston’s defense (and team) fell apart. The Cougars allowed an average 37 points in their three final losses of the season.

Ed Oliver’s presence in the middle of the defensive line has been proven to be of incredible value. Oliver totaled 14.5 tackles-for-loss in just eight games of play this season. He sat out this game in order to facilitate a quicker recovery in preparation of the NFL Draft. Oliver will want to be at his best for the NFL Combine in hopes of improving his draft stock.

Ultimately, Oliver will be a force to reckon with in the NFL and Major Applewhite will need to find an answer to his defense’s deficiencies.
